The name of the 42.5-hectare Enka site refers to its industrial past; it was once the location of the Enka artificial silk factory. The area is located on the east side of Ede, with direct access to the Veluwe while also being well connected by the Ede-Wageningen intercity (train)station and the A12 highway. The redevelopment of Enka is part of a larger area development known as the Veluwse Poort. This is the overarching name for the developments on the east side of the city of Ede.

In total, around 1,300 residences are being developed in the area, ranging from detached houses to apartments. Particularly noteworthy is the former salt storage warehouse, which has been restored and repurposed into 15 distinctive loft residences. There is also space allocated for amenities, including within the nine national monuments, such as the former factory building De Westhal (now a 'bike experience center'). Additionally, two impressive factory chimneys were restored, adding a unique atmosphere to the area. Enka comprises four residential neighborhoods, each with its own character. These include the Stationsbuurt near the future station square, the Carré in the heart of Enka, and surrounding areas called De Hoven and De Bosschage. Each area will have its own distinct identity, with the overarching theme being the monuments of the old factory and the greenery of the Veluwe.
